Tsur Sadan grew up in a rural part of Israel surrounded by farms. As a boy Tsur was fascinated by the old tractors and agricultural equipment, (quite often one could find Tsur spending his free time in the repair shops.) The repair shops often had to repair the broken equipment parts rather than replace the parts. This meant there was a forge and anvil in every shop. Some shops had several smiths working at the same time. This is where it all began for Tsur. The old blacksmithing stories, watching the day to day forging and the next thing he knew he had a hammer in hand at the forge.

In Israel, when you become of age, both men and women have to serve in the military. Tsur had to lay his hammer down to serve his country, until 1990. When he returned from military service he knew he wanted to return to blacksmithing. This time around he wanted to find a professional blacksmith to apprentice with. After finding no one in Israel he flew to the United States and traveled the west coast via motorcycle. Everyone he met told him he was 100 years too late. Eventually Tsur learned of a brilliant smith named Uri Hofi who lived and taught blacksmithing in Israel.

Tsur eventually started working for Uri Hofi, and was Uri’s striker for four years. A smithing routine of Uri's was to have his help start out the day by making nails, and so Tsur would begin each day by making nails. This is one of the fundamentals that both Uri Hofi and Tsur Sadan use today in teaching hammer control. During that time Tsur and Uri flew to the United States teaching and demonstrating blacksmithing. Tsur also had the opportunity to spend time in the forge with Alfred Haberman, the Austrian Blacksmith who taught Uri.

Currently Tsur runs a very busy shop in the desert area of southern Israel. Much of the work performed consists of architectural railings, gates, and furniture. When he has the time, he works on his own artistic endeavors. Twice a year he teaches and demonstrates at the Ozark School of Blacksmithing in Potosi, Missouri.
